Copper Integration Setup
Connect Parsley to Copper CRM to sync leads and conversation intelligence directly into your Gmail sidebar.
Connect Parsley to Copper CRM for automatic lead and conversation sync. Because both tools are built on Google's ecosystem, your buyer intent signals appear right in your Gmail sidebar - where you already manage deals.
Quick Setup
- Have a Copper account (Business plan or higher)
- Navigate to Hub > Integrations in Parsley
- Click Connect on the Copper card
- Authorise Parsley in the Copper OAuth screen
- Verify the connection shows "Connected" status
That's it. Leads and conversations now sync automatically.
Prerequisites
- A Copper account - Sign up at copper.com if you don't have one. Business plan required for API access.
- A Parsley Business account - CRM integrations require a Business plan. Upgrade here if you're on Free.
- Google Workspace - Copper runs inside Gmail. Make sure you have the Copper Chrome extension installed for the best experience.
Step 1: Connect to Copper
From your Parsley dashboard:
- Go to Hub in the left sidebar
- Click Integrations
- Find the Copper card
- Click Connect to Copper
- You'll be redirected to Copper's OAuth screen
- Sign in with your Google Workspace account if prompted
- Click Authorise to grant Parsley access
You'll be redirected back to Parsley with a "Copper Connected" confirmation showing your Account ID.
Custom Fields Created
On first connect, Parsley provisions seven custom fields on Copper Person records:
| Field | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Parsley Lead Source | Dropdown | How the lead was captured (Chatbot, Profile View, Exchange Form) |
| Parsley Profile URL | URL | Direct link back to the Parsley profile |
| Parsley Lead Score | Number | Lead quality score (1 = Cold, 3 = Warm, 5 = Hot) |
| Parsley Intent Signal | Dropdown | Buying stage (High Intent, Evaluation, Research, Support) |
| Parsley Message Count | Number | Number of visitor messages in the conversation |
| Parsley Company | Text | Company name extracted from conversation |
| Parsley Last Interaction | Date | Date of most recent Parsley interaction |
These fields appear on every Person record in Copper and are filterable in saved views and reportable in Insights dashboards.
Existing users: If you connected before this update, you may still see the old "Parsley Intent Score" field. Disconnect and reconnect to provision the new fields. The old field will remain alongside the new ones.
Step 2: Contact Sync
Contact sync is enabled by default. Here's what happens when you capture a lead:
| Parsley Field | Copper Field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
emails | Primary identifier for upsert | |
| First Name | first_name | |
| Last Name | last_name | |
| Phone | phone_numbers | |
| Company | company_name | Visible in Gmail sidebar |
| Job Title | title | |
| City | address.city | |
| Website | websites |
How it works:
- Parsley searches for existing People by email address
- If found, Parsley updates the Person record
- If not, Parsley creates a new Person
- Tags and custom fields are set on both create and update
Sync triggers:
- Lead capture via contact exchange form
- Lead capture via chatbot conversation
- Contact form submissions on your profile
Intelligence Tags
Parsley applies up to 12 tags to each Person record in Copper. Tags are visible in the Gmail sidebar, making it easy to prioritise follow-ups without leaving your inbox.
Lead Source (1 tag)
| Tag | Applied When |
|---|---|
Parsley: Chatbot Lead | Every lead captured through a Parsley chatbot conversation |
Lead Quality (1 of 3 tags)
| Tag | Applied When |
|---|---|
Parsley: Hot Lead | Strong buying signals - mentions budget, timeline, or decision authority |
Parsley: Warm Lead | Moderate interest - asking about features, pricing, or use cases |
Parsley: Cold Lead | Early-stage - general questions, research, or browsing |
Engagement (0-2 tags)
| Tag | Applied When |
|---|---|
Parsley: Return Visitor | Prospect has visited your profile in a previous session |
Parsley: Deep Conversation | Prospect sent 8 or more messages - a substantive engagement |
MEDDIC Signals (0-6 tags)
| Tag | Applied When |
|---|---|
Parsley: Metrics Signal | Prospect mentions measurable outcomes or success criteria |
Parsley: Economic Buyer Signal | Prospect indicates they are a decision-maker or budget holder |
Parsley: Decision Criteria Signal | Prospect describes specific requirements or evaluation criteria |
Parsley: Decision Process Signal | Prospect mentions their evaluation or buying process |
Parsley: Identify Pain Signal | Prospect describes a specific pain point or challenge |
Parsley: Champion Signal | Prospect indicates they are advocating internally for a solution |
Using tags in Copper: Create saved filters on your People list to segment by Parsley tags. For example, filter by Parsley: Hot Lead + Parsley: Return Visitor to find high-priority prospects who keep coming back. Combine with Parsley: Deep Conversation to find the most engaged leads. Tags appear in Copper's Gmail sidebar, so you see lead quality at a glance when reading emails.
Intent signal as a custom field: The buying stage (High Intent, Evaluation, Research, Support) is now a structured custom field rather than a tag. This makes it filterable, sortable, and reportable in Copper's Insights dashboards.
Step 3: Conversation Sync
When a prospect has a meaningful chatbot conversation on your Parsley profile, the context syncs to Copper as an Activity on the Person record.
What syncs to Copper:
- Conversation summary - Key points and topics discussed
- Lead quality score - Hot, Warm, or Cold based on signals
- MEDDIC signals - Active buying signals detected in the conversation
- Key quotes - Up to 2 verbatim quotes that triggered MEDDIC signals
- Engagement metrics - Message count, session duration, return visitor status
- Unanswered questions - Topics the chatbot couldn't fully address
The Activity appears in the Person's Activity tab, giving you complete context before your first call.
Step 4: Verify the Connection
- Check the integration status - The Copper card should show "Connected" with your Account ID
- Check Copper custom fields - Go to Copper Settings and verify all 7 Parsley fields exist (Lead Source, Profile URL, Lead Score, Intent Signal, Message Count, Company, Last Interaction)
- Capture a test lead - Use your own email to fill out your profile's contact form
- Check Copper People - Within a few seconds, you should see a new Person record with Parsley tags
- Have a chatbot conversation - Ask a few questions on your profile's chatbot and check the Person's Activity tab
Google Workspace Integration
Both Parsley and Copper are built on Google's ecosystem:
- Copper lives in your Gmail sidebar and Google Calendar
- Parsley runs on Firebase (Google Cloud) with Google sign-in
This means your buyer intent signals from Parsley conversations appear right where you already work - your Gmail inbox. When you open an email from a prospect, Copper's sidebar shows their Parsley tags, lead quality, and conversation history without switching tabs.
Troubleshooting
"The requested scope is invalid" Error
This has been resolved. If you see this error, clear your browser cache and try connecting again.
Leads Not Syncing
- Verify the integration shows "Connected" status in Hub > Integrations
- Check that the "Auto-sync contacts" toggle is enabled on the Copper card
- Ensure the lead has a valid email address
- Check that you're on a Parsley Business plan
Custom Fields Not Appearing
- Disconnect and reconnect Copper from Hub > Integrations
- Custom fields are provisioned during the OAuth connect flow
- Check Copper Settings > Custom Fields to verify they exist
Conversations Not Appearing
- Conversation sync only triggers for substantive conversations (3+ messages)
- Activities appear in the Person's Activity tab, not the main timeline
- Check that the "Sync conversations" toggle is enabled on the Copper card
"Rate Limited" Error
Copper allows 180 API requests per minute. If you're syncing a large number of contacts, some may be delayed. Parsley will retry automatically.
