Our Approach to AI

At Parsley, we use artificial intelligence to help you understand and communicate your environmental impact through digital business cards. This policy explains how we use AI, what data is processed, and how you remain in control.

We believe AI should be transparent, helpful, and user-controlled. You always decide when to use AI features, and you review all AI-generated content before sharing it.

What AI We Use

Parsley uses Google Gemini, an advanced language model developed by Google AI.

• Provider: Google AI Studio
• Model: Gemini (latest generative AI language model)
• Purpose: Generate sustainability reports based on your networking activity
• Deployment: Accessed via secure API from Parsley's backend servers

How We Use AI

Sustainability Report Generation

When you request a sustainability report (available in the admin dashboard), Gemini AI analyzes your networking data to generate:

• Executive summaries: Overview of your environmental impact
• Behavioral insights: Analysis of networking patterns and their sustainability benefits
• Optimization recommendations: Personalized suggestions to maximize environmental impact
• Predictive insights: Projections of future environmental contribution based on current trends
• Comparative analysis: Benchmarking against industry averages (for organizations)

What Data Is Processed

To generate your sustainability report, we send the following data to Gemini AI:

• Number of digital business cards shared (date range: configurable)
• Paper cards eliminated (calculated from digital card sharing)
• Environmental metrics (CO₂ saved, trees saved, water saved)
• Profile engagement metrics (views, link clicks, contact downloads)
• Networking activity patterns (anonymized behavioral data)
• Your name and organization name (optional, for personalization)

What we do NOT send to AI:

• Email addresses or phone numbers (yours or your contacts)
• Payment information or billing details
• Private messages or communications
• Contact form submissions from visitors to your profile
• Any data you haven't explicitly shared on your public profile

Your Control & Consent

AI Features Are Opt-In

AI-powered sustainability reports are entirely optional. You choose when to generate a report by clicking the "Generate Sustainability Report" button in your admin dashboard.

You Review Before Sharing

All AI-generated reports are displayed to you for review. You decide whether to:

• Keep the report (saved to your account)
• Download it (PDF/print functionality)
• Share it (via email, social media, or presentations)
• Delete it (you can remove any report at any time)

Data Retention

Generated reports are stored in your Parsley account until you delete them. The data sent to Gemini AI is processed in real-time and not stored by Google beyond what's necessary to generate your report (subject to Google's AI data handling practices).

Accuracy & Limitations

AI-Generated Content May Contain Errors

While Gemini AI is highly advanced, it is not perfect. AI-generated reports may occasionally:

• Contain factual inaccuracies or misinterpretations
• Provide generic recommendations that may not apply to your specific situation
• Make projections that don't account for unexpected changes in your networking behavior
• Use language that is overly optimistic or imprecise

Always review AI-generated reports carefully before sharing them externally. If you notice inaccuracies or have concerns, contact us.

Environmental Calculations Are Estimates

While AI provides narrative insights, the underlying environmental metrics (CO₂, trees, water) are calculated using established research and industry data. See our Sustainability Policy for our methodology and sources.

No Automated Decisions

AI does not make any automated decisions about you, your account, or your access to Parsley. Specifically:

• AI does not determine pricing, account limits, or feature access
• AI does not evaluate, rank, or score users
• AI does not moderate or filter user content
• AI does not make decisions about account suspensions or terminations
• AI does not screen job applicants or make employment decisions

AI is used solely to generate informational reports that you review and control.

Human Oversight

While AI generates sustainability reports automatically, human oversight is built into the process:

• You review every report: No AI-generated content is shared publicly without your explicit action
• We monitor AI outputs: Our team regularly reviews sample reports to ensure quality and accuracy
• User feedback: We collect and act on user feedback about AI-generated content
• Continuous improvement: We refine AI prompts and instructions based on user experiences

Privacy & Data Handling

AI-related data processing is subject to our Privacy Policy. Key points:

• Data minimization: We only send the minimum data necessary to generate reports
• Secure transmission: All data sent to Gemini AI is encrypted in transit (HTTPS)
• Third-party processing: Google processes data according to their AI data usage policies
• No training on your data: Your data is not used to train Google's AI models (per Google AI Studio terms)
• Your rights: You can request deletion of AI-generated reports at any time

Future AI Features

As AI technology evolves, we may introduce additional AI-powered features to enhance your Parsley experience. Examples might include:

• Smart content suggestions for your profile
• Automated follow-up recommendations for contacts
• Enhanced analytics with predictive insights
• Natural language search within your contacts and analytics
