AI Chatbot Setup
Set up your AI-powered chatbot to answer prospect questions 24/7 — whether they click your link from an InMail, email footer, or meet you in person.
Give prospects instant answers without scheduling calls. Drop your Parsley link in an InMail, email signature, or cold outreach — and let your AI chatbot handle the questions that come back.
Why Use the Chatbot
Most prospects won't schedule a call just to ask a quick question. They'll move on to a competitor who makes it easier.
The chatbot lets the 99% who won't take a call still get their questions answered — wherever they encounter your link:
- 24/7 availability - Answers questions while you sleep, across every time zone
- Instant responses - No waiting for email replies
- Consistent messaging - Always on-brand, never forgets key points
- Lead intelligence - See what prospects ask before your first conversation
- Works everywhere you share - InMails, email footers, cold outreach, QR codes, event follow-ups
Quick Setup
- Go to Chatbot in the sidebar
- Upload your documents (PDFs, product sheets, FAQs)
- Choose a persona (Professional, Friendly, or Technical)
- Enable the chatbot on your profile
- Add the AI Assistant section to your profile layout
Prospects can now ask questions and get answers from your knowledge base — whether they find you through outreach or in person.
Where to Share Your Link
Your Parsley profile is your always-on sales asset. Share it anywhere prospects might have questions:
| Channel | How to Use It |
|---|---|
| LinkedIn InMails | Include your Parsley link in prospecting messages so recipients can learn more on their own terms |
| Email signatures | Add your link to your email footer — every email becomes a touchpoint |
| Cold outreach | Drop the link in sequences and cadences as a low-friction CTA |
| Event follow-ups | Send your link after meetings, conferences, or networking events |
| QR codes | Print your Parsley QR code on business cards, booth displays, or leave-behinds |
| In-person | Share via NFC tap, QR scan, or simply text your link during a conversation |
The chatbot turns every one of these touchpoints into a conversation. Instead of a static landing page, prospects get instant, personalized answers.
Prerequisites
- A Parsley Business account - The chatbot requires a Business plan. View pricing.
- Documents to upload - PDFs, text files, or markdown. Product sheets, FAQs, and pricing guides work well.
Step 1: Upload Documents
Your chatbot answers questions based on the documents you upload. Quality in, quality out.
From your Parsley dashboard:
- Go to Chatbot in the left sidebar
- Click the Documents tab
- Click Upload Document
- Select a file (PDF, TXT, or Markdown)
Supported formats:
| Format | Best For |
|---|---|
| Product sheets, brochures, slide decks | |
| Text | FAQs, pricing details, process docs |
| Markdown | Technical documentation |
Document tips:
- Upload your most-asked questions first
- Include pricing if you're comfortable sharing it
- Product one-pagers work better than 50-page manuals
- Update documents when information changes
For detailed guidance on document formatting, common mistakes, and keeping your chatbot sharp, see How to Train Your Chatbot.
Documents are processed and indexed automatically. This takes a few seconds for most files.
Step 2: Choose a Persona
The persona controls your chatbot's tone. Pick one that matches your brand:
| Persona | Tone | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Professional | Formal, concise, business-focused | Enterprise sales, B2B |
| Friendly | Warm, conversational, approachable | SMB, consumer products |
| Technical | Detailed, precise, thorough | Technical products, SaaS |
To set your persona:
- Go to Chatbot in the sidebar
- Click the Settings tab
- Select your preferred persona
- Optionally customize the welcome message
- Click Save
You can also write custom system prompt instructions to fine-tune tone and behavior beyond the built-in personas.
Other settings you can configure:
- Bot name — defaults to "[Your Name] Support"
- Welcome message — choose from presets or write your own
- Suggested questions — configure clickable questions visitors see on load
- Privacy policy URL — displayed as a dismissible banner
Step 3: Enable on Your Profile
Add the AI Assistant section to your profile:
- Go to Profile in the sidebar
- Click Edit Profile
- Click Add Section
- Select AI Assistant
- Position it where you want it (after your intro works well)
- Save your profile
The chatbot appears as a collapsible section. Visitors click to expand and start asking questions.
What Prospects Experience
Whether a prospect clicks your link from an InMail, spots it in your email footer, or scans your QR code at an event:
- They land on your Parsley profile
- They see a collapsed "Ask me anything" section
- Clicking expands the chat interface
- They type a question and get an instant response
- The conversation continues as long as they have questions
The chatbot only answers based on your uploaded documents. If it doesn't know something, it tells them to contact you directly.
Example: Prospect clicks your link from a cold email
Prospect: What's your pricing for teams?
Chatbot: Our Teams plan is $29 per user per month, billed annually. This includes unlimited integrations, priority support, and advanced analytics. For enterprise pricing with custom terms, I'd recommend reaching out to the team directly.
Prospect: Do you integrate with Salesforce?
Chatbot: Yes, we have a native Salesforce integration. It syncs leads, contacts, and conversation summaries automatically. Setup takes about 5 minutes with OAuth authentication.
By the time you get on a call, you already know what they care about.
Lead Capture
The chatbot captures leads conversationally when prospects show buying intent. Instead of a static form, the AI naturally asks for contact details when the conversation signals interest.
How it works:
- A visitor asks about pricing, requests a demo, or shows high intent
- The chatbot offers to connect them with you and asks for their email
- The lead is captured with full conversation context attached
Configure lead capture:
- Go to Chatbot > Settings
- Scroll to Lead Capture
- Enable the toggle
- Select trigger topics (pricing, demo, comparison, technical, contact)
- Optionally customize the capture message
- Enable email notifications to get alerted when leads come in
The chatbot uses one-shot capture — it asks once and doesn't pester visitors repeatedly.
CRM Sync
Parsley integrates with all leading CRMs. When a chatbot conversation ends, Parsley automatically syncs the contact and conversation intelligence to your connected CRM.
What gets synced:
| Data | Description |
|---|---|
| Contact details | Name, email, company, job title, phone |
| Lead quality | Hot, Warm, or Cold — scored by the AI based on conversation signals |
| Intent signal | High Intent, Evaluation, Research, or Support |
| BANT signals | Budget, Authority, Need, and Timeline indicators detected in conversation |
| Conversation summary | AI-generated summary of what was discussed |
| Topics | Tags for the subjects covered (pricing, features, technical, etc.) |
| Engagement metrics | Message count, session duration, return visitor status |
| Knowledge gaps | Questions the chatbot couldn't answer — shows what docs to add |
Depending on your CRM, this data syncs as custom attributes, tags, or notes. Connect your CRM from Settings > Integrations in your dashboard, or see the Integrations docs.

Troubleshooting
Chatbot not appearing on profile
- Verify you've added the AI Assistant section to your profile layout
- Check that the chatbot is enabled in Settings
- Make sure you have at least one document uploaded
"I don't have information about that" responses
- Upload documents that cover the topic
- Check that your documents are fully processed (status: Ready)
- More specific documents get better answers than general overviews
Slow responses
- Large documents take longer to search
- Responses typically take 2-3 seconds
- If consistently slow, try breaking large documents into smaller ones
Prospects not using the chatbot
- Position it higher on your profile (above the fold)
- Make sure your welcome message invites questions
- Actively share your link — add it to InMails, email signatures, and outreach sequences
- Use a clear CTA like "Have questions? Check out my profile" rather than just dropping a bare link
